Seems like an expensive ticket for the line up. Don't get me wrong I have my tickets already and I'm excited for sure. However $250 is a Bonnaroo/Rothbury price and the line up just is not as deep. Obviously Furthur is where its at and there are some cool acts but having Flaming Lips and Moe. for headliners sets the bar pretty low as far as who else may be announced. Clearly there will be no big name jam acts ie. Widespread, Cheese, DMB, Phish is booked. IMO with the exception of Furthur, GOTV has a better line up this year. That being said I don't really care because I'll be seeing Furthur on the 4th!

That being said I don't really care because I'll be seeing Furthur on the 4th! Yeah, the ticket's not cheap, but I think that we're paying not only for the lineup but for the size of the festival. Rothbury was over twice the size, and Bonnaroo is over 5 times the size. I think that if moe. had ever played Rothbury, they would've likely been a headliner. I'm not as sure that the Flaming Lips would've headlined, but they very well could have. But part of what I'm looking forward is a smaller festival so it's not that crowded and the walk isn't a half hour from tent to stage. I'm also looking forward to the "other stuff" going on. It appears that the "environment" of the festival is gonna be pretty sweet as well. That's not free either.

What knowledge do you have that makes you think the environment is going to be "sweet"? IME, you can't make that kind of determination until you're there but the only thing in the back of my mind is the fact that I found UpNorth to be wicked sketchy, I wasn't even camped in a s#&%ty area and I had my tent ransacked twice (I'm not stupid enough to leave anything of value in there, but...). Granted, Nateva is in a different location and has a far superior lineup (while not "epic") but I am kind of anticipating a similar crowd and the vibes at UpNorth totally sucked, in my experience. My little crew felt totally out of place and had to make a valiant effort to have a good time despite 80% of the crowd seemingly there to try and rip people off, I hate that s#&% its not what its about. I'm not trying to b$*#& or anything but I don't want to have some ghetto-ass kids ruining my $200+ time. EDIT: My swears censored with symbols make me seem more abrasive than I was trying to be, sorry.

EDIT: My swears censored with symbols make me seem more abrasive than I was trying to be, sorry. I have a couple of reasons to be optimistic. First is that they're very clear about a zero tolerance nitrous policy. I'm hoping that actually pans out to a less-sketchy festival. Maybe it's wishful thinking, but I'm hopeful. What I was mainly talking about with the "environment," however, is all the other stuff that goes into a good festival. They're talking about having things like fire breathers, magicians, jugglers, etc... at the festival. Some of the best times I had at Rothbury were wondering around and finding unexpected cool things going on. They're gonna have bungee jumping, which I've never done, and I think could be really fun. They're doing meet and greats and autograph signings. It just seems like they're putting in some attention to detail, which I think is very important. We'll see how it pans out, but that's my thought right now.

I am with mojo on this one. I am REALLY hoping they are serious about the no-nitrous rule. I like to do a balloon here and there, but the tanks bring a certain sketch factor that can really ruin the vibe. No tanks please!
As for the price. Yes, you are paying for intimacy. I am sure if they wanted to make this a 25,000+ person fest they could/would charge less for tickets. I think 15,000 is the perfect number. No too many people, but enough people for it still to be a large gathering. And the bands they got right now are all pretty solid and somewhat expensive bands. Furthur is pretty pricey, as are the Flaming Lips. Even bands you wouldnt expect still probably charge a decent amount like Derek Trucks, Dweezil Zappa, STS9, ect.
Agreed, the price is a little on the steep end even considering the above mentioned bands, but I am sure there will be more to come.
And as for the UpNorth festival being sketchy, that is a bummer to hear. I didnt go that year, but I really hope its not as bad as you made it sound. LOL i went to All Good last year so I dont think it can possibly be any sketchier than that shiznithole haha...

This is the problem. If YOU are serious about the nitrous problem, then do not be a custy!

below are ticket prices based off of shows from the bands official websites. certain shows will cost more or less than what i've listed below but this is a good range for the average ticket prices.
Furthur ticket to Lowell show = $51.25 (after fees) Flaming Lips Atlantic City (7/4/10) = $42.25 (after fees) moe. tickets (couldn't find a good example) = at least $35 (after fees)
Umphrey's = at least $35 (after fees) Keller = at least $25-$35 (after fees) STS9 = at least $40 (after fees) George Clinton & P Funk = at least $32 (after fees)
Just for those 7 bands above it would cost you over $270 for tickets to their shows. Add in travel expenses and it gets to be even more.
Also consider all the undercard acts already announced (lotus, the felice brothers, Derek Trucks, Zappa Plays Zappa, etc) as well as the 20 or so bands still going to be announced and to me it seems like a pretty good deal.
Of course, when comparing to some other festivals it may not seem worth it to you, but to me I'm paying for this first time experience with a bunch of bands who really interest me as well as all the activities that will be there.
I bought tickets before the prices went up so I paid a little over $200. I feel like I was getting my money's worth just for the headliners........everything else has just been making it better and better.

^^ i will never understand the argument that $200 for a long weekend full of music and camping is overpriced.

You really cant put forth this argument until they announce the rest of their line-up. The have stated that prices are going to increase once they release the rest of their line-up. This could mean that they have some big acts other than the headliners so lets try and stay positive and hope for more great acts. I am satisfied with Nateva as is and I cannot wait to hear the rest of the line-up announced.

I was very happy to pay $200/ticket for Nateva. Where else can you go see some great bands plus camp out all weekend and meet and hang with new 'friends' in a smaller setting? I am looking so forward to this festival and listening to some great music!! Can't wait see who else they have lined up and what sorts of cool things they have going on.

Of all the festivals going on this summer, nateva has 1 of the best lineups for the price. Im pretty sure each band gets a different cut for a festival gig then a regular gig in a shed or hall or arena but the break down in ticket price still gives you a good idea of what it would cost to see the bands on their won. My advice to the people who are against the n20, if you see a tank, tell security and help out a little. It's really sad when i hear people complain about it but never tried to help. The vibes had a hotline number last year but no one called or knew the number. and when security was told, they did little to nothing to stop it. sure tanks got taken but vibes had no where near enough security to shut it down. If a portion of my ticket is going to help pay for security and an anti n20 force, then i'm all for it. cant make it this year but hopefully this will be an anual festival and i will be there next year.

prices are not that far out of line with other festivals, and I'll pay extra for the promise of something new and good. Like many have said, the nitrous scene at other festivals is atrocious, and I'm willing to give Nateva a chance to prove that they can live up to the zero tolerance policy. Along those lines, and in line with the post above, I'm wondering if anyone has broached Nateva about a security hotline. Even the best security efforts won't catch everything on their own, but if many people are serious about supporting this policy as say they are, then we should have no problem setting the groundwork for what could be an awesome and extremely sketch reduced scene that could last for years down the road, hopefully.
Oh yeah, and the line-up rocks.

They know about a hotline, they have staff paid specifically to keep nitrous out. Trained staff that has worked n20 security at other festivals, they know what works and what doesnt

Lineup is sick. I am pumped. Although it's not exactly cheap, i think it's well worth the money. Everyone talks about "Headliners" like they are what makes or breaks a festival. I usually have to tread lightly when I speak of such things, but alot of todays festival headliners are bands that are out of their prime, and are banking on their own legacy to sell tickets. My favorite part is discovering new and unique music created by up and coming bands that still have the passion and drive to make a name for themselves. Although, I pretty much love everything about this lineup.
