So I know almost nothing about the Flaming Lips besides the fact that they are headlining Saturday night and they appearantly have unique and extravagant stage setups and shows.
Anyone care to point me in the direction of some Flaming Lips that may help me know what they are all about? Youtube links? Archive links? anything?
Thanks

I'd say that Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots is a great album to start with

I say go out an get The Soft Bulletin at some point before you go to sleep tonight. That is a Top-3 Favorite album of mine.
Yoshimi is fantastic as well and you can't go wrong with either, but Bulletin is my preference.

Hey there.....I'll be putting together a "guide" for how to embed Youtube videos soon.....but for now if you want to post youtube videos you can either click the button ( ) and paste the URL of the video inbetween the "youtube" tags or just type out the Youtube tags by hand. So it looks like this: then it results in this

Yoshimi is definitely the most accessible and is a really great album. I found Soft Bulletin hard to get into, but it's also great. I got into the Lips through Hit to Death in the Future Head, unfortunately they don't touch that stuff live these days (I understand that, they have a different sound/goal now). Hit to Death in the Future Head, Transmissions from the Satellite Heart, and Clouds Taste Metallic are all really fun albums.

Nice, which one did you get, the clear one? Let me know how it is. I just watched the video on Jambase of the Lips w Stardeath on Jimmy Fallon. They performed breathe with of course a strange upbeat twist. Pretty cool video besides the vocals being a little off. Cant wait to see the wild man at Nateva!

Hmm.. so i see from Celebrity Access that Stardeath and White Dwarfs will be at Nateva with the Flaming Lips. About a month ago i made a post with the Lips upcoming tour dates but it wasn't exactly clear what dates Stardeath and White Dwarfs would be collaborating with the Lips besides Bonnaroo and a few others. Just came across this info a few minutes ago... Interesting eh? So maybe we can expect the Dark Side of The Moon in Maine this year! Yeeeah. This festival only gets better by the day. 6 more days folks!

I got the Seafoam Green version of the Vinyl atmosphere.
Also, I saw other dates a while ago that had the "Stardeath & White Dwarfs" dates along with Flaming Lips and Nateva was listed.....but couldn't find where I saw it originally.
I have a feeling that we'll get a few songs from the DSOTM cover but not the full show. At Bonnaroo they are playing for at least 3 or 4 hours....doing the DSOTM cover in its entirety and THEN a set of their own material. I feel like Nateva will be a mix of original Flips and 2 or 3 DSOTM songs.....but I could be wrong. We'll see.

Either way....my point was that they are playing extended at Roo. I imagine Nateva they will have a shorter set time so maybe not spend the majority of it on covering the album. Here's what Wayne said about roo: - source

I have personally listened to the DSOTM album by the flaming lips and I wanted it to be good sooooooooo bad because it would be a perfect mix of my two favorite bands. But in all honesty I really didn't like it besides a song or two. I really hope Flaming Lips sticks with their original stuff. And if they end up doing some Darkside hopefully they won't take up too much time with it. Also atmosphere where did you find those tour dates?

Possibly bad news.......looks like Flaming Lips had to cancel a few dates due to one member being hospitalized. Not sure if it's sickness or drug related but it's looking like it could be something with drugs.....we'll have to wait and see.
he Flaming Lips were forced to cancel their Thursday night appearance at the SunFest in West Palm Beach, Florida, when longtime guitarist/keyboard-player Steven Drozd was hospitalized with an undisclosed ailment.
"Due to unforeseen circumstances SunFest is announcing a last-minute schedule change," a statement from the event reads. "The Flaming Lips have withdrawn from the festival. We regret any inconvenience that this may cause. ... SunFest has been informed that the cancellation is due to the hospitalization of Steven Drozd and therefore extends wishes for a speedy recovery."
A spokesperson for the band could not be reached for comment at press time, but a publicist told Spinner that Drozd is "expected to make a full recovery."
As of Friday, the band was no longer listed on the roster of expected performers at the five-day event, which includes Weezer, ZZ Top, Shinedown, REO Speedwagon, Nas and Damian Marley, Patti Labelle, and Ben Harper. The Lips' spot was filled by Ladies and Gentlemen, led by local radio DJ Smitty, after organizers were unable to find a national headliner to replace them when word came down on Tuesday about Drozd's hospitalization, according to the Sun-Sentinel newspaper.
The Lips were also forced to cancel a gig at the Beale Street Music Festival in Memphis, Tennessee on Saturday (May 1), though it was unclear at press time if any other upcoming gigs would be affected. They are slated to play at the Hangout Music Festival in Alabama on May 15 and to perform their version of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon at Bonnaroo on June 11.
Hope he gets better in time for Nateva.....or else we could be out of a headliner.

2 months out, not too worried. Something to keep an eye on, though. Wishing a speedy recovery and return to the road for the Flips!

It's just something to be aware of. Hope he gets healthy and can rock Maine in July. If they cancel Bonnaroo.....then we should start to worry.

They'll probably play a few from Embryonic and a few from At War with the Mystics for sure. Try those out.
