I won't be going, but I'm so happy that The Avett Brothers are all over the place at festivals this year. Gotta love the local boys. And to think that they were just a cafe act at 'roo in '08. They've come a long way and deserve the love.

I may end up at Mt Jam this year workin promo. If that doesnt pan out I am going to skip. I have been the last 4 years, plus the first 2 that were unofficial and the lineup this year has sooooo many acts that I have seen at mt jam already atleast twice I cant bring myself to spend that money on it this year. No umphreys kinda did it for me.. Claypool is the only major act that really excites me there this year but I will be seeing him plenty this summer anyways.

I haven't had the chance to see Avett Brothers yet and I've been trying (unsuccessfuly) to catch Levon Helm, so I was excited by this years lineup. My girlfriend has never seen Franti live and she's a huge fan of his albums so that should be a good time.
Claypool late night should be amazing. Looking forward to that a lot. Plus I've been getting into DBT more lately.
Some of my favorite acts are there as well. The Duke & The King / Simone Felice, Justin Townes Earle, Dr. Dog......all favorites of mine.

I hope DSO plays a better set than they did 2 years ago latenight. I think they were pissed that they had to wait an extra 30 minutes or so for the fireworks to end before they could play and then all the smoke rolled down the hill and settled right on the second stage where they were playing. Only DSO show I have ever left... Claypool is gonna be freakin awesome tho!!

Donald Fagen from Steely Dan was just added as a guest at levon's 70th Birthday Bash. That show is going to be a special one.

I went to Mountain Jam in 2008. Best festival experience of my life, hands down. -excellent location -supreme lineup -great vibe -awesome people -just an all around well run festival -good weather
I think since then (2009/2010) the lineups havn't even come close to matching the 2008 lineup. Its a shame, because I would really like to get back to Hunter Mountain again...

It's looking increasingly like me and lady friend are going to be there. I've been to the last two and last years was kind of a let down line-up wise. This year looks about 1000 times stronger, though so I think we'll check it out. Claypool late night is going to kick ass. Not to mention Levon.

Just got back a little while ago. It was by far the best of my three MJ's. The crowd was awesome, the music was phenomenal and overall it was just incredible. I only heard one nitrous tank all weekend! If nateva gets hip to this security, I would have no problems, they were all super friendly and were only really serious about busting the nitrous people. As far as the music, I didn't see a bad set all weekend. My biggest complaint was how long it took them to set up the stage for Levon. They were scheduled to play at 7:30 and didn't come on until well after 8:15. That being said the birthday bash was pretty awesome. Derek and Susan absolutely slaughtered it, can't wait for a second dose of them at Nateva. I'm sure I'll have more to say about it later, but I need to recover a little more first.

I watched the birthday jam on iclips...it was just too good. Everyone involved killed it, with the exception of Donald Fagen stumbling and bumbling his way through Shakedown Street. That one tune aside, it was one hell of a show.
Was also blown away (yet again) by Lettuce and I really enjoyed DBTs. Those are 2 acts I shan't miss at Nateva.

Got back at 3am and was at work at 7! I am for sure going to be crashing as soon as I get home. I can barely see straight.
This was my first Mountain Jam and I have to say, as far as festival experiences go the past three days were some of the best!!! Great people, great music, great venue. Security and check in was smooth (got there about 12:30pm on Friday, waited a little less than an hour in line), the hike to our campsite was a b*tch (live and learn!!!!). The weather Friday and Saturday was gorgeous - a little rain both nights. Sunday was on and off rain for a good part of the morning, which made breaking down the campsite loads of fun. Short monsoon during Franti, but the sun was out after about 15 minutes. While the rain was pouring down, Michael and Jay jumped offstage with their drums and jammed with the crowd that stayed out and braved the weather. Definitely one of the highlights of my weekend. Other highlights: Drive-by Truckers, the Avett Brothers (first time seeing them live - wow), Warren on stage with Les.... probably lots of others, but that's what I can remember right now.
Overall, I was really impressed with this festival. I neither saw nor heard any nitrous tanks the entire weekend. No balloons on the ground. Security was great. The volunteers were helpful and friendly. The bathrooms and the port-o-potties were super clean and many still had toilet paper towards the end. The only disappointment really, as iamwelting said, was that it took so long for them to set up for Levon. With all the rain that day, the temperature had dropped and the wind was up. Standing around for an hour while they were mic checking was brutal.
I will definitely be back next year - and now i am even more pumped for Nateva!!

Hmmm. A lot of folks over the Ratdog.org message board were saying security was awful and very intrusive, almost to the point that they put a damper on the weekend. But y'all are saying security was great. Different people have different experiences I guess.... Glad it was fun though. I watched Claypools set on Iclips, real good stuff! I went in 2008, and it was amazing, wish I could have gone back this year. Oh well, Nateva will more than suffice!!!!

I had an awesome time at Mountain Jam this year. I plan on writing more about it but wanted to address the security issue. Below is what I posted on the Mountain Jam message board after someone complained about the security being too strict:
I had absolutely NO PROBLEM at all with security. So it definitely seems like a case of dealing with the wrong security guards at the wrong time for some people. A lot of others on the MJ Message board had no problems either. Just the luck of the draw.....similar to most fests.

I had no trouble with security either but it was a bit excessive with the patrols. My buddy and I sat on one of the main trails in the campground and literally there was a security patrol on ATVs every couple of minutes. This is not an exaggeration, it was non stop. For some who were there simply to get messed up it put a damper on things because it killed that scene. That being said, I didnt see a single tank all weekend and I would much prefer tight security and no tanks than weak security and a serious nitrous problem.
Besides all that nonsense Mt Jam was great once again. Wanna thank Frank and crew for making it possible for us to get out there and work promotions for the weekend, was a great opportunity.
