Well... Nateva is going to be my first trip to Maine, ever. But, coincidentally, I'll be returning in late October as well for my honeymoon.
My fiancee (msmolly) and I will be going up to Owls Head the last week in October and staying at some family's "beach house." Sooo... I was wondering if anybody here could suggest some things for us to do while we're up there. I know there's several Mainers on here, don't know if there's any in the Owls Head area, but was just looking for some ideas.
At this point, we're really just planning on keeping it a very relaxing time... just go with the flow and get up and go explore when we get the urge to get up and go. We'll also be taking our regal beagle Merlin, so things that we could include him in as well would be awesome.
;D

I'm living in Unity right now, which is sort of in the Owls Head area. As far as things to do, you'll be pretty close to the camden hills state park, which has some cool hikes or drives that have great ocean views. If you're looking for more night life type things, Belfast has a pretty good live music scene (actually going to see Jazz Mandolin project there this weekend), and Three Tides is an awesome bar with some of the best microbrews in the state. Camden and Rockport are nice towns, though I haven't spent much time there. Also, if you're up for a little drive I highly recommend going up to the Bar Harbor/ Acadia area. Really funky little town with an amazing National Park right next door. Anyway, you shouldn't have any trouble finding things to do, just drive up the coast and see where it takes you. Enjoy!

Awesome! That's exactly what I'm looking for. Don't know how much night life stuff we'll be looking for, but live music is never a bad thing.
I'm really looking forward to getting up there. Maine honestly looks like Heaven to me. Being from Pennsylvania, I miss having real winters down here in North Carolina and am tired of having summers where everything just looks dead.

+1 Bar Harbor - Acadia is awesome, especially love Great Head trail. There's a sort of 'back way' into the park trails on Schooner Head Rd for the locals to avoid the gatehouse but they might frown on seeing out of state plates there.

Nah they won't frown on out of state plates. Well, most won't anyway. I use that back way into Acadia and see out of state plates there all the time. There are several "back ways" into Acadia actually. The only places you really have to pay to see are Thunder Hole and some of the hiking trails, like Gorham Mtn. Granted they are WELL WORTH paying for. If you make it up this way, let me know. It really is beautiful and Bar Harbor is a cool little town.

dido on camden area and acadia... also you should definitely go down to the pemaquid/damariscotta area, really nice lighthouse to check out, damariscotta has some really great restaurants like the Damariscotta River Grill, King Eiders Pub, and Zampas (a little italian place). Also theres some great Kayaking on the Damariscotta River.

Boothbay Harbor is a wonderful place also! The ocean and small fishing villages is SO Maine.
