Posted: March 22nd, 2010
After a successful and enjoyable decade in Turin, moe.down opts for a change of scenery: Gelston Castle Estate in Mohawk, NY. Or perhaps we should say...moe.hawk?
First Roosevelt, then Rostropovich. Now moe. will bring crowds over Labor Day weekend to the 330-acre Central New York site, which boasts breath-taking views of the Mohawk Valley and an impressive history. Majestic ruins of the 1833 castle still stand, along with the 8,300 square foot mansion built by cellist and humanitarian Mstislav "Maestro" Rostropovich, which now operates on windpower. Often called "Nature's Palace", the estate was once the place where the Nation's most historic environmental advocate, President Theodore Roosevelt, spent his childhood summers, and is now the home of Green Leadership Institute. It is 20 minutes from Utica, NY.
