I think it would be awesome if there was to be a world cup game on the big screen. The sox would be cool too but I think that having a world cup game would be even more special because this only happens once every 4 years, a great way to kick off a new festival with a special showing on the big screen!

Those shirts are dope! They are planning on showing both sports in the VIP area, not sure about using the latenight screen for it though.

It would be cool to show it on the screens but not sure if they will. Some games have been pretty exciting.

The only problem I have with it is the games are on at 9, 11:30, and 2. So, any showing would have to be either tape delayed or shown before the music starts ( whitch would be cool too)

Wow, good call. I can totally see Jerry Garcia looking down from above being totally psyched that his band is now marketed as being one with an international commercial sporting event. That is very Dead-like. I hope I see someone wearing this shirt next weekend.
Also, if you want to watch sports go to a game/match/whatever not a concert.

I like that USA shirt. I'm a fan of any Team USA gear. If the US is playing during Nateva, they really do have to figure out a way to show it. They're playing the quarterfinals during Nateva, so if the US is still in it it'll be a pretty big deal.

Wow dude, I'm pretty sure Jerry is just happy that people still listen to his music and that the legacy of the Dead is being carried on by his friends. Not sure why you're hating on the WC so much, and I'm not sure how you managed to become such an authority on what is "Dead-like," but what I do know is that having the option to watch soccer matches during a festival is a pretty sweet thing, and if you don't want to watch them than don't. Have a good festival!

Yeah, yeah...I know it's cool for the US. And yes, those shirts look really cool and were probably done by some well paid and talented graphic designers who most likely answer to an even higher paid brand manager and did a really nice job...but watching TV at a concert? Lame!!! Not down on soccer, just don't understand what place it has at a concert. The whole idea of the festival atmosphere is to live in the place; watching a sporting event (with gatorade and coke commercials every 10 minutes) half a world away throws a big stick into the spokes of the moment. Here's to living in Oxford for four nights, not South America!

I see something like the World Cup as more than just a "game." There's a lot of unity and community that comes from coming together as a large group like that. The World Cup is one of the largest events of any kind in the world, and it brings millions of people together. Showing the quarterfinals of this event is something that can actually bring a lot of people together.

I don't think seeing some awesome music and having access to the most important sporting event in the world (at least in my opinion) have to be mutually exclusive. I'm hoping to catch some futbol while I'm at Nateva and like someone said earlier, if you don't want to watch it, don't.

Don't turn the world cup into a commercial sporting event. Because it definitely is not. It never has been, and the properties of the game won't allow it to be. That's why our country created football - or at least has been the result of it, as well as the other sports we have created. Baseball, basketball, and football all allow for an incredible number of commercial breaks and even have been modified to include more. Soccer is a continuous flowing game that doesn't rely on athletic dominance or drawn up plays, etc. It's a free-flowing game that relies on improvisation, creativity, and a team's understanding of each other. When you realize that, it's pretty similar to most of the bands a lot of us probably like... Also, it is the world's game. We can rely on media for understanding of sports, but it'd be ridiculous to do so when the top sports are ones that we created. The entire world loves soccer, maybe a few countries enjoy other sports a bit more, but it is overwhelmingly the most important sport to people of the world. It unifies countries, has stopped wars (literally- a team only qualified for the world cup and the next week, they ceased their civil war), and just look at what it is doing for South Africa. That's the one commercial aspect about it. Only it's not the rich people over here piling up the cash, it's going to a region much less fortunate than ours monetarily. So come on, we can't respect all of that and instead label it as a commercial sporting event? So...yeah. A World Cup game would be awesome. It would be perfectly convenient with the quarterfinals starting at 10am, so you could play one on time Fri and Sat. the other game each day is at 230 but I'm sure you could fit two in Sunday morning since they were both recorded. I'd be happy with one, just tryin to lay out the possibility of all 4 ;D Please don't take this the wrong way either, I'm not trying to be negative towards anyone, I just can't stand when soccer is misunderstood - not that it's anyone's fault, we haven't had any (maybe a bit) good/intelligent coverage of the game over here, so it's hard to know f you haven't pursued it some - just like much of the music that's gonna be at Nateva And don't worry, it won't bring any of the drunken antics some people might be worried about. There won't be any regional rivalries (like a Red Sox/Yankees game) or anything of the sort that would encourage anything negative. Soooo yeah, bring the World Cup to Nateva!!!

A World Cup game would be much better than a Sox game. It will be the 4th of July weekend, and the chance of having everyone coming together backing the USA on the 4th of July weekend would be really cool. I'm not even a big soccer fan, but I'd be all over that.

keep in mind, the US would have to win their first game before that could happen, aside from beating Algeria. And if Germany and England both win (and if England wins by more than we do), we'd be playing Germany before the quarters...

Dear dreamer, What part of McDonalds, Coke, and Budweiser spending hundreds of millions of dollars for commercial sponsorships doesn't equal a commercial sporting event? Obviously Nateva has sponsors...but we are going to Oxford not to South Africa. You are obviously quite enlightened with your world awareness, but it's not a matter of misunderstanding soccer...(you may want to sit down for this)...some people just don't like it! In my opinion, it's boring, unsophisticated yet lacking humbleness, and generally annoying. But that's just me. I don't care to argue the merits of soccer. I also don't like tomatoes, but I do value the health benefits of garlic, olive oil, and hard work. If an African country unites and stops civil war because of soccer, that is great, but it certainly doesn't make me want to watch soccer on the 4th of July at a sweet concert. Watch it on your sweet new iphone and let everyone who just wants to see music get what we paid for...wait...I am looking into the future...and I somehow see those very wishes coming to fruition. But who am I to assume! Also, why do a bunch of Americans on Independence Day in Maine need an international sporting competition to bring us together... Ugh, these conversations reel me in like a crooked river trout! Peace out, and a big cheers to music! No worries mate! Don't turn the world cup into a commercial sporting event. Because it definitely is not. It never has been, and the properties of the game won't allow it to be. the amount of money spent isn't the point. anything that draws billions of people draws money as well. that's just the way we've built our world. but if you don't like soccer, cool. don't get up early. that's the beauty of it - the people who want to see it, the people that it matters to, will have (and want) to wake up earlier in order to see it. If you don't, then don't. Nobody's suggesting it be put over music or for it to be shown in place of music, and I wouldn't to begin with because you're right - people paid for the music and should be given it -- that's why I'm driving from Louisiana to be at Nateva - for the music. But there's no reason something of this magnitude shouldn't be shown if the people who will be at Nateva want it.

The USA made it out at the top of Group C. They have a good chance of advancing to the Quarter Finals, which will be held during Nateva. We need to figure out a way to watch that game! USA! USA! USA!

Whoa I love the enthusiasm, mojo, but to say the U.S. has a "good chance" in the first knockout game might be a bit of a stretch. Ghana, Germany and Serbia are no pushovers.
Either way, WHAT A GAME TODAY!!! I hope that the legions of soccer haters in this country watched it and became converts.

I'm not saying that they're pushovers, but we're no slouches either. Should've come out of the group stage with 7 points, and should've scored at least 2 against Algeria. Hope the refs are better for the knockout round!

What's up with all the festival goer bickering in the forums. We all have the common denominator of enjoying music and festivals. Some of us also like soccer (like myself), but I personally hate baseball (could care less if you like it though). But no need to attack a valid suggestion. Nateva organizers...it would be sweet if you could set up a viewing station. We play Ghana and have a chance to make it. Regardless I would love to watch. If it works out I appreciate it and appreciate the responsive accomodations. If it doesn't...that's cool too cause you're throwing a festival. But I don't remember people whining about Matel or MLB at Bonnaroo. I was quite confused, but then again I had no business in a batting or pitching cage, it would have been like on Happy Gilmore. Anyways, people that hate on soccer or suggestions should chill and respect others. I hope the matches are there and if not, I will watch them on my iPad wearing one of the sweet corporate shirts I just ordered.

did you know that Leominster Mass is the home of Johnny Appleweed??!?!? That dude sure did love to prance. It's really a lost art if you ask me. And even though I'm not that into soccer, I have no problem with a viewing station somewhere. To each his own. As long as it doesn't greatly interfere with anything else. Plus, I'm always down for a good group cheer, and a solid USA chant.
