So we got any hoopers out there?
I have been a hooper in training for 2 years now. Well actually purchased my first hoop 2 years ago but didn't do much with it til the past year or so.
I'm learning lots and bruising lots!
A friend and I just started making them not to long ago.
This can be a good place on support for new hoopers, new tricks for old vets and sharing ideas.

If the music is groovin, then I am a hoopin!
I'd love to arrange some sort of a meet-up or workshop to teach people to hoop, and have the more advanced sharing tricks/tips/advice and whatnot.

My daughter and I just started hooping last summer. I stopped for the winter, but have picked it back up again. I feel out of practice after not doing it for a few months. I have tons of hoops that I've made and love to give them away! It's my happy little way of spreading the hooping joy! Hehehe
I'd love to meet up with other hoopers and share info and just hoop!!!

You girls wanna teach some hooping lessons at Nateva? I could look into that for ya, would be a kool addition to the fest. Maybe some hooping lessons around 11am-noon on the mainstage field each day? As far as I know they dont have anyone doing that yet, maybe you ladies are the ones to take it on?! I know my girlfriend is planning on joining all of you we just gotta get her on here, she just started manufacturing hoops recently too.. my apt is filled with irrigation tubing lol

Dexxy that would be great, I'd totally be willing to do hooping lessons! I'm just not sure the "each day" thing works for me though...by Sunday morning I can't imagine I'll be able to form complete sentences.  I always bring extra hoops, but of course the more to share the merrier. For those of you that sell your hoops, that would be a good opportunity to swing the deal. Hoops practically sell themselves! |

Dexxy I'm definitely attending Nateva, I'll be there Thursday.
I'm also definitely interested in doing some sort of a class or classes.
Only request is to make it in the mornings before the music starts, and I'm in for Fri/Sat.

That would be fun. I've been doing the hoopnotica dvds and take class an occasional class with a certified hoopnotica teacher. I love it!!!
Gathering in the morning sounds like fun!!! A good way to start the day.

My house & garage is filling up with supplies too. I'm trying to control my urges of ordering more tape. I'm trying this whole boundry thing. but it's a struggle. it's like trying to not buy those cute ugly pair of shoes. *sigh* |

Boo, I know exactly how you feel on the whole tape ordering thing. I have to restrain myself from buying too!! Between the tubing, tape and bellydance costumes I have a very full closet! But just try to restrain me from buying more sparkly stuff to adorn myself with! Yeah right.
I'm going to try to bring extra hoops with me to gift and what-not. Depends on how much room I have in my car though.

can you guys tell me how you get your hoop up from your knees to your waist?
dancer--i have some glo in the dark tape i want to put on one of my hoops. I haven't tried it out yet to see how well it glows but supa excited about it!!

I couldn't help myself, I ordered more sparkly tape! Also ordered a coil of 1/2" 125psi tubing to make some trick hoops. Woohoo!
Boo, can you drop the hoop down to your knees and you just need help getting it back up?
When I want to bring the hoop back up from my knees I just lift my knee and sort of "kick" it up...that gets it to the thighs, and then I just shimmy up from there.

hey jojo yes i can drop the hoop to my knees and try to pop it back up w/ my knee but i can't seem to get it anywhere lol *sigh* i've been working on it for weeks. perhaps more time and patience is all i need. thanks for the help and oooohhhh what colors of sparkly tape did ya get?? ;D ;D |

There really is no substitute for practice. Knee hooping took me a long time to get, it was a bit frustrating, so I feel your pain. Where is the lowest you can drop it below your waist and still be able to get it back up? I'd suggest slowly dipping it down to your hips, then back up. From the waist to the hips, down to the thighs and then back up. Just work on gaining control and eventually that "point of no return" will dissapear. I was hooping a bit earlier and thought about how to describe moving the hoop up from your knees. If you are hooping to your left (counter-clockwise) on your knees, then use your RIGHT knee to lift the hoop up. If you are hooping to the right (clockwise) then use your LEFT knee to lift the hoop up a bit, then shimmy it on up to your waist. OH and sparkly tape...I placed an order from identi-tape.com got:  and  and  and a couple gaffer tapes to match.  |

boo, you should watch Safire's hooping videos on YouTube, in particular, her "hooping at the knees" tutorial. Her videos are the best in my opinion. ...search: Safire hooping at the knee

she has a vid of her hoopn experience from when she first started to now!! it was nice to see that she made the same mistakes as we all do learning b/c she is awesome at hoon now!

I've taken my hoops camping with me and the glow is really great for night hooping, especially when your hoop gets throw off into the dark by mistake!  It glows for hous too. I have one of my g-i-t-d hoops in the back seat of my car. It gets the sun all day and glows all night! lol We should definitely all get together and trade tips and tricks and advice at Nateva! I would love to learn more and pick up some tips on how to do things from the more experienced hoopers out there. (That's definitely NOT me!) |

so my girlfriend has been a hooper in training too...almost 2 years! She'll get on here sooner or later... i'd love to see you gals get down with yo' bad selves! ...oh, and boo, after a little lift with the knee, I just grab it with my right hand and pull it up and over the head, spin it in-hand a few times, then just drop my body in! I can't quite shim it up like jojo suggested...to hard for a taller fellow like me.  |

yay another hooper thats what i've been doing phamily. we had our glo hoops out last night and my nieces come over and one of them drops it right to the knees and brings it right back up...i'm like are you kidding me!! wth lmao she said she'll teach me lol |
