Shade canopy

So we don't have canopy for shade. We have a ton of tarps, but no way really to put them up. Any suggestions, short of going out and buying a canopy, for what to about shade?

I was in this situation a few weeks ago but found a canopy on craigslist yet i have a bunch of research left over. I found this website which gives tons of variations as to how to build tarps in different regions www.bushwalking.org.au/FAQ/tarp/TarpShel.htm

A cost effective way to put it up is getting a tarp pole from a place like dingle's or Sports Authority. They have them all over and i think i saw one recently for 8-10 dollars. Other companies have some serious tarp pole designs but they can be pricy, ranging from 20 - 50 dollars, those can be found on sites from REI and Eastern Mountain Sports.

My solution to the matter is get some tarp poles, tons of rope and extra stakes. Try to either it hook it to your car somehow or just make it like a traditional canopy. That site about may give you some ideas but i have a few other sites if that doesn't work. Hope it helps

Try to get a site near trees for shade. If not, find someone who has a canopy and chill with them!!

Just get some rope and use your car (ideally a truck) and your tent as the support system. Tie to the truck at one side and go over the top of the tent and use that as the other side, with your lounging space in between. It may be not be very tall but it is cheap.
Alternatively EZ ups aren't that expensive when you split it with some friends.

So what I've done in the past is gotten friendly with the neighbors at the festival, and put the tarp over the two vehicles and then viola, you have shade and more importantly shelter from the rain (though I hope we don't need it). You just close the tarp in the doors on the far sides of the vehicles or tie it off to the mirror/door handles. Of course this method means hanging out in between the cars, but it's better than nothing.
