Every year at festival time I am stuck with the age old question of what kind of beer to bring to the festival? None of the beers I prefer are available in cans so I usually end up bringing a half dozen or so Guinness and then a few cases of Miller Lite. I don't mind Miller Lite, but it isn't the same as kicking back and enjoying a tasty Sierra Nevada.
What are some suggestions for tasty beers in the can? I would prefer something that isn't a mass-marketed beer you can find on the menu of any local pizza joint.

Theres not that many good beers in cans. Other than guinness and heineken, the only other one i know of is Dales Pale Ale, its a great pale ale, with 6.5 percent. even though its in a can, I'd say it gives sierra nevada a run for its money, and sierra is one of my favorites. Don't ask me where to get it though, I'm in CT and theres only a few places that carry it. As for me, i'm going with some busch for the hot afternoon where you just want a cold beer, and some homebrew for when i just want a good beer. Maybe it'll be some honey wheat i've got fermenting, or maybe a special Nateva brew to celebrate the occasion, if i can whip something up next weekend

I'm grabbing some local pale ale, plus some of the other beers from the Dale's folks. They've got a stout, double IPA, Red Ale, and a Pilsener. Check out a few specialty beer stores when you head down to Maryland for the Phish shows. They have alot of stuff there that we have in VA. There's a place near Merriwether Post just south of Columbus that has a big selection.

Yuengling comes in cans, although it is unfortunately impossible to find anywhere in NE. Luckily I'm in NY right now and am contemplating bringing some up and saving them (hard) for the fest. There's also a microbrew that comes from right down the road from where I grew up in NY called Butternuts brewing co. They only sell cans and have a really good pale ale, milk stout and IPA. This is even harder to find. In all reality I'll be drinking PBR.
Side note: if you like documentaries there is a really good one called "Beer Wars" that I would reccomend to anyone interested in the microbrew/corporate beer competition.

I'm bringing 2 30 packs of Miller...regular Miller....cheap and gets the job done...probably a few premium beers if I can find some in cans.

New England Brewery (Woodbridge/New Haven CT) has a few nice ones. Sea Hag IPA, Amber and they also have a lighter pilsner. Kick your butt beer in can is Gordon's, so ya gotta watch out, Gorden'll get ya! We also like Dale's~!

I'll have to look around - I had just assumed I wouldn't be able to find anything decent in cans and was planning on just getting a twelve pack of PBR (really hate most cheap beer but PBR is at least drinkable). Probably pick up a plastic 'traveler' of Beam as a back up supply. ;D
As to the mini-keg folks they've posted that they won't allow kegs or beer balls so you might want to check on the Q&A forum before loading those up.

Hard to find good beer in cans, but for stuffing in one's pockets, they are so damned convenient! I favor Guinness since it's readily available, as well as Boddington's. I'm all up for canned IPAs, especially if I can find Fat Tire (yeah, I know it's impossible east of the Miss). I hope local stores in NH and ME have good canned selections (but I may bring some exotic flavors since VA has a beer mecca near me).
A beer ball is a lot like a mini-keg, and a mini-keg is still a type of keg, so taking these two together I'd vote no. Coolers are made for cans, which cool down much faster than kegs (larger surface area to volume ratio).

I like Guinness and Labatt Blue for canned beer drinking pleasure, but thankfully Margarita mix comes in plastic bottles and wine comes in boxes for this kind of thing. LOL

Red Stripe is available in 16oz can 4-packs around here...not everywhere.... but I was sad to see it is brewed and canned in Canada, not Jamaica. But alas it is a good summer beer. Also some Brit beers like Boddingtons and Old Speckled Hen are available in Maine. I'll probably have a mix of those and some basic swill like Old Mil and Miller. Regular Miller. And yes, I'll take Old Milwaukee over PBR any day. I know PBR is cool and trendy but Old Mil actually tastes better...less sweet and smoother. Of course, they are both about a 1.5 on a scale of 1-10....

If anyone is coming from up north, Ron's Market in Farmington, Maine has an incredible beer selection. They especially carry lots of fantastic beers in a can such as Boddingtons, Old Speckled Hen, Butternuts, Sapporo, Red Stripe, Young's Double Chocolate Stout, and many more. Check out this beer from NY that has all 4 of its beers in a can-> www.butternutsbeerandale.com/My favorites are Guinness, Boddingtons, Corona (in a can, it's delicious!), and Butternuts.

I'm in Maine, around Bar Harbor. Talk with your local LQ store or large beer place.. They can 'Can' lol, many brands that you normal wouldn't see on the shelf. Just ask the right place and they will have it in a few days. They might have a 2 case min or something but it's always worth asking what they can get. Oh : good cans for base camp, icey cold drinkable cans for partying, cheap beers for handouts and wOOks .................... that'll do it
